Faxing Issues
The Life Cycle of a Fax:
- New
- Conversion to Graphics Image
- Ready to Use the Modem
- Calling the Receiving Fax Machine
- Done
Queue/Status Displays:
| N |
|
New |
|
When you submit a fax, immediately the status is N. The status does
not stay at N for very long, as it turns quickly to I if the image converter is busy or G if
the converter is available. |
| I |
|
Image Converter |
|
When you see the I status, the fax is waiting in line to use the
graphics image converter. |
| G |
|
In the Converter |
|
When a fax is at G status, it is being converted into the graphics
image. |
| R |
|
Ready |
|
The image conversion has completed and the fax is ready to use the
modem because someone else or another fax has the modem in use. |
| C |
|
Calling |
|
The fax is currently using the modem to dial out and send the fax. |
| W |
|
Waiting |
|
Waiting to retry a failed fax or waiting to use the modem because
someone is using it for UEN or other dial up services. If you see a fax with a W status, it
will be tried again. |
| D |
|
Delivered |
|
The fax was successfully delivered to its destination. |
| X |
|
Final Fail |
|
The system now has a control that you can set for maximum number
of retries on a failed fax. Currently, most systems are set to 3 for a single fax and 3 for a
bulk fax. You may change these numbers any time. If a fax receives an X status, it will no
longer attempt to deliver the fax. |
Modem Speaker:
The modem speaker is turned off. If you would like it on, let HSI know and we will turn it on for
you. Having the modem speaker on, allows you to here if the modem is actually dialing, to make sure
everything is working.
Scheduling Modems & Faxes:
Scheduling modems and faxes allows you to send faxes at different set times either, when phone
rates are cheaper or when there is no one around and there are open phone lines.
The modems can be scheduled to go off at different times, depending on what time your phone lines
are occupied to. For example, if you have a hunt of 3 phone lines, you can set line 3 to start
faxing at 5:00, then line 2 to start at 6:00 and line 1 to start at 7:00. This way your main line
stays open for any incoming calls. If you would like to schedule modems let us know and we will take
care of it for you.
Retry Control:
Setting the retry control tells the system how many times to try sending the fax before giving
up. For a bulk fax, use MAXTBF. For a single fax use, MAXTSF.
