TARGET Revision 22.1

May 2008

1. There are significant changes in the operation of the Machine Inquiry (F8) screen and associated searches. The saved search result list is now more persistent; it is only thrown away if you use the key change function to select a new machine or do a search. It will now survive a prospect change for example. As always, all searches are cleared if you return to the sales menu.

A subtle but important distinction is that in previous versions of TARGET the SHIFT-F8 function would actually repeat the search. In this version, SHIFT-F8 redisplays the result of the previous search. In most cases there would be no difference but if a machine is added or one is modified so that it would no longer fit the search criteria the result will not reflect that change unless you re-do the search from the beginning.

Another change is that the SHIFT-F8 function will now start the display at the currently-selected machine rather than at the beginning. This should make it faster to run through the list of matches after looking at the detail of a particular machine.

2. There is a new function available in F8 when you are displaying a machine as result of a search (not as a result of entering a machine number). This function, T<ake> is used to mark a machine in the list for future use (see below). If the machine is marked a * will show right after the machine number on the F8 screen and also on the search result screen. If the machine is already marked, the T will remove the mark.

Note that the list of marked machines will not survive a new machine search. This means that all marked machines have to be in the same category. If this whole idea is a success, we may change that in a future release.

3. The email stock list from F11 has a new question, "Take List?" If there is at least one machine that has been marked using the F8 T<ake> function, the list of marked machines will be used to generate the stock list. The other fields still apply, so if you fill in the manufacturer or category these will be tested too. The idea is that you can now quickly build a custom stock list email and send it to a prospect. Since the search results list is now more persistent, you can send the same stock list to several prospects just by changing prospects.

Coming versions of TARGET will make further use of the list of marked machines. Watch this spot for more details.

4. A new function key is now defined. F16 (or SHIFT-F6) will take you directly to the prospect list generator in the back office. This is available only if the user profile has been modified (back office function 88/12) to set the F16? field to Y. The default is N so don't expect this to work unless you change the user profile first. The idea is that after using the Take function (above) to select a list of machines, you can now go to the back office directly and send the stock list email to a group. The new path to the back office was necessary because passing through the sales menu would clear the Take list.

Assuming you use this method of getting to the prospect list generator, the Take function will be available on the stock list email. If you get there the old way it will not.

5. In the accounting system, the billing maintenance program has been changed to allow viewing (but not changing or deleting) the line items on a bill that has already been generated.

6. In the prospect search (when you use ? to find a prospect) we now ignore punctuation in telephone numbers.

7. The correspondence menu has a new function (23) which allows you to email an HTML file directly (without having to import it into the word processor). In order to work with this program, the file must:

  • Reside in the new "html" directory on your TARGET system
  • Begin with exactly <html>" (lower case) as the first line of the file
  • Lines in the file must not exceed 78 characters
  • Filename must be in 8.3 format, with extention ".htm"
  • Note that if the first line of the file does not say exactly the right thing, we will send the file as text instead without warning. As always, we STRONGLY recommend that you always send yourself a test copy of any new email.
8. The back office prospect list generator output choices also have a new function under "names for bulk email" that allow sending the same file (subject to the same rules) as in #7 above.

9. There is a new code available for advertising machines on UEN. If the minus sign appears in the advertising code string, the machine will be transferred to UEN but will not appear in the normal lists of machines either on UEN or on your web site. The machine will appear normally if referenced by number. The reason for this is that the new HTML quote format depends on having pictures on the UEN system but there are sometimes machines you want to be able to quote but not show on UEN or your web site.
