CDMS Back Office

The "back office part of the TARGET system implements sales support functions. These are typically used by support and adminisrative personnel rather than salespeople. The backoffice has over 100 functions available, so we describe only a sample below.

Sales Report

  • Sales Manager - reports on all sales activity for a given range of dates; this can be sorted and selected by salesperson or prospect
  • Outstanding Quotes - this lists all quotes needing follow-up and is used to drive the follow-up effort
  • Pending Sales - shows all quotes resolved as sales but not as final sales
  • Forgotten Prospects - lists prospects with whom regular contact has been lost; it is easier to "recover" a forgotten contact than to develop a new one.

Joint Ventures

  • Inventory by JV - lists all inventory held with each joint venture partner
  • Sales by JV - shows all sales during a given period for each joint venture partner

Machine Reports

  • Machine History - shows all actions taken on a given piece of equipment, including purchase, quoting and sales/scrap
  • Inventory Valuation
  • - shows all inventory (or selected inventory by location or type) along with price, stated cost, actual calculated cost, and the percentage of each figure attributed to this company (accounts for JV)
  • Equipment Listings - there are several versions of these, both public and private, showing equipment available for sales, wanteds, inventory and consigments

Prospect Lists
The prospect list generator is one of the most powerful features of the TARGET system. It provides for selecting prospects based on types of equipment used, quote history, partial company/contact information, geography, and arbitrary selection codes assigned by the user. Once a list has been selected, it may be used for bulk faxing, printing labels, or assigning further codes.

Advertising
The advertising sub-system tracks advertising in publications, brochures, and on the Used Equipment Network. Equipment is automatically removed from advertising when sold or scrapped.

UEN Interface
TARGET features an automatic interface to the Used Equipment Network, the world's largest on-line database of used equipment and equipment dealers. Since TARGET, UEN and UED use the same category structure (and many of the same programs), listing style in consistent in all areas. Equipment available for sale can be kept up to date on UEN with a single menu choice.

Bulk Faxing
While not a separate menu choice, bulk faxing is available throughout the system. TARGET can manage up to 10 fax modems, each with a different schedule. This means that extra incoming phone lines can be used at night to supplement faxing capability without the cost of additional lines. delivery confirmation is optionally made to the prospect tracking system and automatic and on-demand reporting handles failures. Dialing rules (such as needing "1" on calls within the area code) are handled completely.

Area Code Updates
All TARGET users on the annual support program receive area code updates as they are released by the telephone companies. The system automatically corrects all the numbers that change.
